Wedding Planning Tips

Here at Swaneset, we've hosted more weddings than most. We know what makes for a fantastic ceremony and reception, and we know the best strategies and approaches to take for planning your big day. The following is a list of tips we're happy to provide to you...

  • Your ceremony location, reception facility and photographer should be the first on your list to book. Ensure your date is available with all three of these before you put any deposits down.

  • Wedding venues are booking up quicker each year, as early as 18 months in advance. Be sure to start early when looking for a wedding location to ensure you can book the date you want.

  • If you find a venue that can accommodate outside ceremonies, ensure they have a back up location for the ceremony in case of poor weather.  Most venues will have referrals for other vendors you will need to book for your wedding. This is a great place to start looking for bakers, photographers and decorators, as the venue will have experience with these companies and send you in the right direction.

  • When planning your meal, remember to take the wedding cake into consideration as part of the dessert, or perhaps a "midnight snack" for later in the evening. Unless you are planning on saving your cake for a gift opening, make sure it gets eaten at the reception, as you do not want it to go to waste.

  • Find out if your wedding cake, flowers, and any decorations can be stored or delivered to your venue prior to your wedding day, as this will save you extra things to remember on your wedding day.

  • Detailed directions or maps can be retrieved from your venue and passed onto your guests to ensure they are "on time" for you special day. Maps can be shrunk down to fit in with your wedding invitations.

  • It’s a great idea to book your ceremony rehearsal at least two days prior to your wedding day. This will give you a day to relax and sort out last minute details before the big day.
